Mr. Guinta is the Chief Investment Officer and Managing Principal of Fair Haven Capital LLC. Joe manages Fair Haven's Core Equity portfolios and well as serves as the firm's Chief Investment Officer.
Prior to returning to Fair Haven Capital in 2014, Joe spent five years with DG Capital Management as a Vice President and Portfolio Manager. Joe managed portfolios there under his current opportunistic investment discipline. While at DG, Joe's stock selection and strategies were implemented firmwide across over $1.7billon in client portfolios. DG Capital's clients included wealthy individual investors, public and private institutions as well as two public mutual funds.
Joe began his investment career at Smith Barney Shearson in 1985, working with numerous wealthy individual and institutional investors as a Portfolio Manager and Vice President. While at Shearson, Joe provided research and investment strategy advice to several International Trading Groups as well as three New York Stock Exchange Member Firms.
In March of 1994, Mr. Guinta joined Gruntal & Co. as a Firm Trader and Portfolio Manager in the firm's internal proprietary trading division. Then located at 14 Wall Street, the Gruntal Proprietary Trading Division developed and fostered unique, opportunistic investment styles. The Gruntal "Prop Desk" was the incubator to several of the World's most prominent and successful Investment Partnerships. Through his experience with Gruntal, Joe was taught to evaluate risk and return through a unique approach designed to achieve success in both up and down markets. These research methods and thought process have remained important tenets at Fair Haven Capital.
With this background, Mr. Guinta left Gruntal in July of 1995 to start Fair Haven Capital, where he was a co-founder, Managing Member and Chief Investment Officer. Fair Haven Capital was founded with the goal to search out attractive investment opportunities regardless of the market environment. From its inception in 1995 the firm's flagship fund, the Fair Haven Capital Fund, LP, ranked in the top tier of its hedge fund peer group. In its 13 year run, the fund's only losing year was 2008. In his years at Fair Haven, Joe developed, refined and implemented his current opportunistic investment style. In 2005, the firm launched its successful long term equity discipline which remains active today.
Mr. Guinta holds a BS in Management (Finance) from Boston College. While at BC, Joe was a member of the Men's Varsity Wrestling Team. After graduating from BC in 1983, Joe continued to serve the University as the Head Varsity Wrestling Coach from 1983-1987. In his free time, Joe enjoys golf and coaching youth sports.
